Coliseu Micaelense is a multidisciplinary cultural venue based in
Ponta Delgada, on São Miguel Island, Azores (Portugal). Its
mission is to promote access to culture and the arts, foster
artistic excellence, and contribute to the social, cultural, and
economic development of the region.
As a key cultural infrastructure in an EU outermost region,
Coliseu Micaelense aims to:
• Ensure broad public access to high-quality cultural
programming
• Promote performing arts, including music, theatre,
dance, and multidisciplinary performances
• Support artistic creation and professional development
• Encourage cultural participation and audience
development
• Foster intercultural dialogue and international
cooperation
The organisation develops a diverse annual programme that
includes concerts, theatre productions, dance performances,
festivals, conferences, educational activities, and community-
oriented initiatives. In addition to presenting national and
international artists, Coliseu Micaelense provides space and
technical support for rehearsals, artistic residencies, training
activities, and smaller-scale cultural events.
Coliseu Micaelense also plays an important role in cultural
mediation and education, promoting activities that engage
different audiences, including young people and local
communities. Through its work, the organisation contributes to
strengthening the cultural ecosystem of the Azores and
enhancing the visibility of the region at national and
international levels.
Looking ahead, the organisation seeks to expand its European
dimension by participating in transnational cooperation
projects, integrating international networks, and promoting the
circulation of artists and cultural works across borders.
